Hatem art is a traditional handicraft developed in Isfahan, Iran. This art is accomplished by creating unique patterns through woodworking, shimmering metalwork and combining different natural materials. Hatem art has an important place in Iranian culture and draws attention with its rich history and aesthetic appearance.
Hatem art is performed with the use of different natural materials. These materials include ivory, bone, gold, silver, brass and colored woods, as well as sometimes rare stones. These materials are first cut into small pieces and then put together to create unique designs. The patterns formed by the combination of these parts are generally composed of geometric shapes, floral motifs and calligraphy.
Hatem art is traditionally applied to wooden surfaces. The processed wooden surfaces are usually brown or black in color, and the patterns created by sticking pieces of material on them are completed with extreme care by handwork. Hatem art is still widely practiced in Iran and is a prominent and world-renowned art among Iranian handicrafts.
